    $20 back.jpg $20.jpg

Just recently found in my wallet a $20 note that has a very unusual marking on the reverse side. The strange marking is on the lower left side directly above the 20 ..I have attached a couple of photos for you to see. Bill appears to have the appropriate watermarks and security strip. Any idea what this may be and what may be it's value?

    Not a rubber stamp impression?

I've come across a few different images on various notes:

From my novice eye, it doesn't appear to be an impression that was stamped on. The edges of the mark appear smooth and not blotchy like you would see on a stamped on image. The mark itself closely resembles a portion of the numeral 2, but I cannot find anything to match it on any currency. At a loss as to what this is.

Try to get a close-up pic of the area.

Not having it in hand, I'm still guessing it's a stamp. But, wait till some of the others look at it. Give them time, not everybody is on here everyday.

    Yep,

    That's what I call a modern chopmark.

US notes circulate all across the world. As they pass through currency exchanges they are verified to be genuine notes. A lot of times they will put a rubber stamp on the back of the note, such as this one telling the other people who work at the exchange... and other exchanges locally that this is a genuine US $20 note. You usually see them on higher denomination notes.
