I am curious by the strange mark on George’s forehead, especially what appear to be 2 “ribs” left by whatever may have caused this.
Just curious if anybody has a reason, idea or theory as to what made this mark. 697139C4-2AAC-420C-9998-1C8B86AD987C.jpeg CC14D816-5DBA-41D7-BEDD-C3D9C23A581B.jpeg 40631511-AC08-4BB9-9574-59F039A6CB3F.jpeg 9AE51E56-089E-4764-A6BD-AB007A534D73.jpeg

There's more like 2 clear "ribs" and 3 other "ribs" to my eyes
have you checked the width/length of the "ribs" on the side of a quarter for comparison ?

I'll guess the coin was used in slot machines or some type of vending machine for many years.

That coin has taken a lot of hits in it's time. PMD in my opinion. Better luck ahead, thanks for the post.

If you see something unusual on a coin that has a lot of hits, dings, gouges, and damage like your coin, there is a very high probability that the marks are also damage.

I predict that John Silverman struck this coin to make it PMD.

Look in front of his nose. Looks like the columns in the Lincoln Memorial Cent. Perhaps an attempted vice job?

I never claimed it was anything but damage but I was curious as to what might have made that mark and if anyone had an idea what caused it. I received 3 responses with a possible explanation and the rest simply parroted the PMD song. So thanks to the 3 who actually read the question before firing off an answer.

Although you may be curious, does it really matter what caused it if it’s PMD? There are so many ways a coin can got damaged, who can anyone say for certain what caused it. However, with knowledge of the minting and die making process they can say for certain that is was PMD.

I don’t know why you’re being critical of people who responded PMD. Do you think they are repeating what others have said without forming their own opinions? Do you think their answer was incorrect?

    This is your question

IMO, PMD is the correct answer. As mentioned above, once it's been established that it's PMD, anything else is just an educated guess

Now if you would have clarified it by saying something like “I think this is PMD, what could have caused it”, then maybe your criticism would be warranted. Don’t forget, people are taking their time and sharing their knowledge with you. Not all have the time to give a detailed explanation (and in the case of PMD, it really doesn’t require one). Maybe next time, you should specify the answer you want so your time won’t be wasted by reading posts that don’t meet your criteria

Dude, I don't think eating Armadillo willys is a good idea, they sometimes have leprosy.

Are they anything like rocky mountain oysters though?

I whole heartedly agree with @Oldhoopster and felt it was rude for you to suggest we just "parroted" what others thought. I'll think hard before responding next time.
