I was looking for one of these and it seems that a few places seem to be sold out. I called a coin shop here in town and he said that he had every other year except 2005. The mintproducts website is also sold out of 2005. The Plaza Coin site has them for $31.20 plus shipping...that is as cheap as I have found on the web (except for maybe eBay). Should I grab one from Plazacoins.com while I can? Is there something special reason why places are sold out? Has anyone here ever purchased from Plazacoins.com?
I had some luck getting ASE proofs on ebay last year for about 25.00 a piece. With silver climbing I'm not sure if they are obtainable at that price any more. It never hurts to try your hand at ebay unless your in a giant hurry. 2005's should be all over the place. If I'm not mistaken this was the first year the mint did not limit the amount of proofs to be made.
Thanks for the info, but I am looking for proof, not uncirculated. Plus graded ASEs don't really interest me anyway...the extra money just pays for the grading fees in my opinion. Why pay extra for an MS69 when I could potentially get an MS69 when buying an ordinary uncirculated for less than $15.
How likely will it to be to find an MS69 ASE in uncirculated condition? I am not saying it is impossible, but how likely? I just bought a whole set of ASE MS69's so I will be willing to purchase other graded ASE's the same way. Graded coins cost more but they also sell for more bc of the grading. Not to mention being incapsulated to prevent further wear. People know what condition the coin will be. I hope I don't sound like a nub poster responding, just putting in my 2 cents and learning along the way.
Hllywood, I can't think of why it would be so tough to get a 2005 so I wouldn't get my shorts in a knot and just run out and buy one because its available. $31.20 doesn't seem like that bad of a deal if the shipping isn't outrageous but if I were you I'd shop a bit more at your local shops and try to save the S&H. Ask that coin store if they are getting more in, it seems odd they would be sold out. If you do order online there is a good ebay seller that I've dealt with before that has them graded PF69 by NGC for $34.99 + $4.95 S&H. I know you're not that into graded coins but for an extra eight bucks and change I'd spring for the slabbed coin.
Oh, ummm, that ebay seller is "go-chiefs" by the way. Geez, I'd for get my head if it wasn't screwed on tight.
Thanks for the info...I'll check him out. I am from KC myself, so if he is a Chiefs fan he must be a good person!! And if her lives here, I could get a break on S&H. *in his best Mr. Burns voice* EXCELLENT.
I am not against graded coins per se, but I don't think it is worth it to pay extra for something that basically qualifies as bullion. Plus, grading is so subjective. It is done by humans so mistakes can be made. Just because someone who works for a professional grading company says a coin is MS69 doesn't necessarily make it so. If you send the same coin to 3 different grading companies I think the odds are pretty good that you would get 3 different grades. It all opinion, basically. Just my $.02
