2005 Plating Error or Just a Pretty Penny?

    Found this coin in pocket change and not sure what to make of it.

    Most likely environmental damage. I have seen Zincolns like yours that were heated (which partially or completely burned off the copper plating).

    Thanks for replying. I wanted to add that the scan of the photos does not show the luster of the coin. While the silver portion is dulled, the copper colored area still maintains it's regular shine. Would that be the case with environmental damage?

    It could be. A drop of acid can cause similar damage and only affect the area touched by the acid leaving the rest of the coin untouched.

    The 2005 Cent is not a 'partial plating' coin, imo.

    It's been played with.
