2005-P Lincoln - Die Break or Gouge?

    Any opinions? It's easily visible by eye, but these shots are under scope and with light source adjusted to show relief.

    I just noticed something else: the die polish lines continue through this break -- are the dies polished by hand and inspected at the time of polishing? In other words, if someone were polishing the die, wouldn't they notice that it was broken, or cracked?

    Looks more like a Die Gouge.Oh and nice avatar.

    Definitely not a die crack. It's probably a die gouge, although you can't rule out a linear blister in the copper plating.
