I had an original mint box of 75 2005 Mint sets with satin finish. The value of them has gotten so low that i was considering breaking them up for the cash value. Then I saw on Ebay that there was a Minnesota "extra tree" DD #1 error. I opened the 75 mint sets and low and behold I found fifty (50) Minnesota quarters with the "extra tree" doubling. I am not a error coin guy, but these are obviously the extra tree variety of this double die on the Denver Minnesota coin. This box of mint sets was mailed the first day of issue. On Ebay these are advertised from $239 to $400 each. Could it be that the people selling them on Ebay simply don't know what they are selling. I couldn't find that any of these actually sold. Or have I stumbled on to something? There appears to be almost 100 varieties of the 2005 double dies. But from what I read the DD #1 is the most desirable variety. Could anyone shed any more light on this?
Minnesota DD#1 My camera doesn't take very good close up pictures, but I checked the coins that I have and they are exactally like those pictured on koinpro.com and identified as Minnesota Quarters Denver Mint Double Die Reverse #1 Matte uncirculated. They have the 'extra tree" on the left of the third tree Does anybody have an idea of their value?.
Minnesota Denver Mint DD#1 Attached is a picture of the Minnesota Denver Mint error coins that I have. Any idea of value?
Found my own answer. Well I did a little research on my own and by checking of PCGS Registry sets for error coins I found that the coins that I have are not that unique. The population of the 2005-D Satin Finish DD#1 is over 100 at MS68. Therefore, there must have been a ton of them submitted to get that many with that high a grade. Guess that I did not hit the jackpot. No sense submitting any of my coins to PCGS since they grade the highest only for high volume submitters. Little guys like me have almost no chance of getting a really high graded coin from PCGS. Anyway thanks for looking.
