Hello all. I recently bought several mint sets that I am using to fill albums and such. When I looked at the 2005 D Kennedy half I noticed that it was not the "satin finish" that all the 2005-2010 coins were supposed to be. Rather, it has an extremely proof like finish that's evident from clear across the room! The philly half had the satin finish as did all the other coins, but not the Denver half. Has anyone else seen this and is it something that would be worth sending to PCGS or NGC, or would I be wasting $30?

    Not the best pics, sorry.

The first year of the satin finish mint sets they had some problems with the finish and some of the coins in the mint sets come out looking like regular business strikes. Since the mint set coins tended to come much better struck than the regular business strikes people would send these in trying to get them graded as very high end business strikes and not satin finish. High grade satin finish coins are common, high grade business strikes are rare and costly. Unfortunately your coin, while it has a nice business strike finish, has too many marks and hits to get a high grade blessing. As such it is not worth slabbing.

Well that's kind of a bummer. The coin actually looks really good to the naked eye, but under that camera flash it looks like it got run over by a truck. Thanks for the reply, appreciate it!
