I found a 2004 Wisconsin quarter that does not have a copper layer. Looking at its edge it is only silver. Is this worth any thing?

post a pic.....I would bet my 37D three legged buffalo nickel on it that the quarter is not silver

Assuming the pictures end up not showing a copper core, it sounds to me like a silver proof! The mint makes the state quarters in silver proofs, and then puts them in special mint sets which are available for purchase. The value depends on the shape it's in, but it's worth at least its silver value. More than likely, someone (probably a kid) broke open a relative (probably his father)'s mint set and used it to by some ice cream or something, not knowing what it really was. If it does end up being silver, it's a nice find, especially in circulation.

I know the sound of silver and this is a conventional quarter. I know immediately when a cashier hands me a handful of change and the silver sounds different. Mine sounds just like all the other quarters.
