    Hi everyone,

How does everybody feel about the fact that the 2004 proof sets, (silver and clad) have one of the lowest mintage in a very long time. Does anyone feel that they have the potential to rise in value like the 1999 Silver proof set, etc? Wondering if I should stock up on some proof sets for the upcoming year as a investment.

    Thanks,
    Dave

The silver sets are still being sold at the mint, so no idea if this will be as hot as the standard proof set or not. As for are they a good investment, well I am not an investment advisor, just a dealer. I made the statement early on that this set would be hot. The first 11 coin set ever. Seemed like a no brainer to me.
Watch the 2005 set. With the Bison nickel, this one will eclipse the 2004 set by a long run. (Just my opinion).

Can't answer the question since I don't purchase for the sake of investing.

However, I'm sure glad I have four sets, and that we gave the 2004 proof sets to kids and grandkids for Christmas!

Seems to me they already are a good investment, especially if one has sets to sell. Pretty good jump already if you ask me. Next year (2005) will be one of the hottest proof sets ever released due to the fact the 2005 buffalo nickel will be there. When the general public finds out about the buffalo nickel, well brace yourself for the onslaught!!! Personally I think picking up a huge amount of buffalo nickel rolls would be some of the best advice I could give concerning modern day coinage. This coin is going to go through the roof and the fact that 6 to 9 months is the longest it will be made will even strengthen the demand. Long term it will be an amazing winner and short term (couple of years) will bring unheard of returns by the roll. This will be THE COIN of 2005 so I am going to do some major stockpiling for me and the kids. If, by chance, I am wrong on this one I can always say I have plenty of nickels for the pop machines! There will be plenty of posts made about this coin in the next year so we will all see who was right and who was wrong. I do think the KEY here will be uncirculated ROLLS in the very near future? Any other comments?

Thanks ND I will make a note of it! Look forward to the next year and getting to know all these new folks on this forum. Really some great people wandering in from CW and everything I have seen the last couple of days has been better than I imagined it would be. Gee, and all this time I thought the CW forum was the ONLY place to hang out. Guess I was REALLY wrong on that one as this place is more active than an ant hill!!!

I for one welcome all of you making your way over from CW. A forum is only as good as the people who make it that way. I look forward to getting to know you all.

I think they are a good short term item but not very good long term.
