Surely, this had to be a bored mint employee having fun. A die chip could not have been this well placed. Let just say Abe is indecent.
Yes, I see that, but moving along.... There appears to be more going on that just the column doubling. Perhaps Simon or one of the other Lincoln variety guys could say more, but if the OP is interested in varieties, this one is worth at least looking into: http://doubleddie.com/732834.html
Ok, people have had their fun, stop this line of comments and get to the actual variety listing discussion ONLY.
Okay, I'll play. Is this a previously reported variety, or is this a new discovery? Maybe a known class, but not this particular version? Do the TPG's recognize these? If not, what is the process of getting it recognized?
I'm 99% positive it's this one: http://www.coppercoins.com/lincoln/diestate.php?date=2004&die_id=2004p1dr007&die_state=mds I see the die chips on column 3, in the full reverse image. These are fun to find for me. Congrats!
I was thinking it was that one as well but I though the doubled column on the coppercoins example looked a bit bigger, though that could just be due to the angle the coin was photographed from.
Well I had posted a coin a few months ago for the obverse only....I was thinking it was a bit inappropriate to post the reverse as I found the same thing. Now I have to find the darn coin!!!!! I have a picture of it somewhere in my files.
I think you are correct. The marking on my coin after closer inspection match the exact ones that thr web site displays. It may not be valuable, but it is fun to find a real error. Thank you so much.
