I found this 2004 p nickel which appears to have been struck without a rim on a type 1 planchet. Can anyone help me with this please!
Welcome to CT Unfortunately, that's just damage done after the coin left the US Mint. 99.9% of coins you find "different" are all due to damage. Coins are used for currency and everything else like parking lot fodder. if you make a checklist of every coin that goes through your hands you'll find a lot of damaged coins, either lightly or heavily damaged.
Even if it is damaged wouldn't it still have a rim on? Which happens in the upsetting process where the rim is placed on before pressing coin with the coin die. Thank you for your input.
