Hi, I have a 2003 mint set in OGP that has 2 Missouri quarters and no Arkansas quarters in the Philadelphia set (the Denver set is correct), this set is still sealed in it's OGP. Does anyone have any info on this??? Thanks. Nate
It's not a minting error, it's a packaging error. It happens from time to time and there might be a small premium to the right collector but it's nothing of great value.
^^^ Agreed. Part of the problem with these mint sets is that these sets aren't truly "sealed". People can get into them and switch out a coin relatively easily without damaging the case. Now if you had a 1964 set in original mint cello that had a packaging error, that might be worth a bit more, but still not as much as a minting error.
Ok, thanks for letting me know about this. I will definetly keep this because OGP oddities like this are bound to attract attention someday to the right collector as suggested. Thanks.
"Mint Sets" are in fact "sealed" and cannot be opened to replace a coin. Proof Sets in the other hand, have not had the plastic lens sealed since 1999 and coins can be replaced. Typically, mis-packaged "mint sets" have a novelty premium associated woth them and as has already been stated, have no real value.
