Hello! First time posting, have a few for you: The first is a 2003D Mint Set, originally purchased from the Mint by myself, that includes 2 Alabama quarters (missing the Illinois) - this can be seen at: http://www.timdineen.com/images/coins/mint_sets/images/2003D_UNCIRC_25C_ERROR.jpg The next is also from a quarter set, this one being a 2004P, with a VERY weak Iowa quarter, and can be seen at: http://www.timdineen.com/images/coins/mint_sets/images/2004P_IOWA_ERROR.jpg Any input as to value, if any, would be appreciated - I am definitely keeping them for the coolness factor, just curious...
The packaging error is neat but I don't think it will bring a premium because of it. The weak strike is kind of neat also, if your collecting things like that. As to the value of these problem children of the US Mint, I don't have a clue what to tell you. If they where mine I would keep them as proof that people working at the mint are sleeping on the job just like most everywhere else.
I had the same opinions and conclusions as you stated, just wanted some verification - neat, but not especially valuable...I have what I believe to be a "Clear S" 1981 SBA proof dollar I will try to get a better scan of when I find it, but take a look at this: http://www.timdineen.com/images/coins/proofs_indv/images/1981S_PROOF_SBA_CLEARS_jpg.jpg
The package error might bring $1-$2 more than normal if you find the right person. The weak strike will also bring some money if you find the right person. And as for the 1981-S Dollar....yes I think it is a Clear S!!!! NICE FIND!!! SPeedy
Hi, This S is the Type I for the year 1981, they call it a "Rounded S". This is the common one. The rare one has a different appearance to the upper loop of the S Also, the top of the Clear S also known as the "Flat S" kinda has a flat surface when you look athe the letter. Bill
