i have a 2002 indiana state quarter that is damaged.i believe the damage was at the mint because the words are on top of the indentations.any ideas as to how this happened?/
Quite a difference between the first image and the third image.........Looks 'post mint' to me.......
It's post-mint damage. You can see that whatever made the indentations on the reverse left raised areas on the obverse. Chris
If we had close-ups of each indentation, I could probably show you where there is damage to the devices, but based on those photos, you'll just have to take my word for it. Chris
Look at this realistically. Why, exactly, would you think the Mint had a Road of America die kicking around to superimpose upon something they produced for circulation? That, on its' face, is such a ridiculous proposition that you immediately dismiss the Mint as a potential cause, and explore postmint options. That's the point at which you listen to Chris' point about the stamp affecting the other face of the coin - the Mint is better at pressing things than to allow details of the one side to penetrate the other - and start seeing things with clarity.
