I'm not a collector, but I love using fifty cent pieces I get from the bank. Get a kick out of the reactions I get from people. Can anyone tell me what is it with the two different designs on the 2002 coins?
I thought they both are commerative as they have the dates 1952-2002, just that one has the dates on the front and the other on the back with a larger portrait of the Queen. I quess what I'm wondering is did they make more of one than the other and why, is there a series?
The one with the regular design was in sets only, if I remember correctly. The circulation one used a modified reverse which I don't really like, and incorporates the obverse used on the Canadian 1953 schoolchildren's coronation medal. It might had possibly been the last circulation 50c were to be struck. I make note of the fact that the mintage was huge (in comparison with usual for 50c), and that none were struck for 2003 or 2004, the first no-strike years since 1922-28.
Thanks for the info. Also, "none were struck for 2003 or 2004"? Cause I have one that was in a bank roll, would that have come from a set too?
