Could someone tell me if this is indeed an error ? it looks like an extra star almost, its definitely part of the coin and not gunk or something
If there is no damage to the other side of the coin then I would say it could be the result of a die chip.
the other side looked regular. So what does this die chip mean exactly ? does that make it an error coin ? what ever happened to my coin seems to have happened to this coin only to a more severe degree http://www.ebay.com/itm/Nederland-Error-coin-5-euro-cent-2000-/151125523473 I would appreciate any input
No the Netherlands coin in the ebay link is just damage. A die chip is exactly what it sounds like, a small piece or chip of metal has broken out of the die. This leaves a small void in the die which creates a raised lump on the coin. Premium value tends to be very low.
It is cruel to have happened this to your coin. After all, it has damaged your coin even if it is a die chip.
