So I found this 2011 d nickel the other day and I noticed right away on the edge of the coin side edge looks like normal metal and then the obverse has a different type a metal which can be seen in the pictures the reeded edge like a dime an the the reverse side. What I'm guessing is a dime planchet got to stamp and pressed onto the nickel Planchet. Tell me what you think it is?thanks
Ok I'll guess. Think that not enough pressure when cutting out blanks. Call on me when ou find out from the pros. @paddyman98. @Paddy54
I think it's a dime pressed on to a nickel planchette. Has reedited edge on the reverse side edge.it also has a slightly lower edge on the reverse side than the obverse edge side of the coin witch made me suspect it was a dime on nickel.
Your coin is a normal nickel. It looks like someone grinded the edge down to give it that tough feeling.
I am sure someone more knowledgeable than I will post, but first thought is it may be marks from the collar when the coin was ejected from the press, or possibly just from when the blank was punched out. Not possible for it to be a dime planchet pressed into a nickel.
