2001 Rhode Island Quarter

    My wife just got this coin from Wal-mart the other day with her normal change. Can someone explain to me how this happened and its worth?

    Welcome to Coin Talk!

    It appears that is may have been ground or sanded down then a wire brush on a drill used on it.

    That is a tampered coin somebody just felt like damaging the coin to make it look odd that's all,i have never seen a coin look like that outside the mint tampering

    No I didn't say post mint damage it's out side the mint damage somebody did that to it tha'ts to exstensive for post mint damage

    It looks like any metal that you would hold down and twist on a belt sander.

    Jazz,

    If the damage is done outside of the Mint after the coin was minted and whether it is extensive or not...it is still Post Mint damage!

    Post Mint = After it left the Mint
