Hello all, new member here. This is a 2001 $100 Platinum Eagle. Can anyone tell me what they think the black line is after "In God We Trust"? Also how it would affect the grade if the coin was to be graded. Any other issues that you see as well. Trying to decide if it's worth getting graded. Thanks! It looks like a pen mark which shouldn't be a problem. If its a scuff then I don't know . I probably would wait for as many answers as possible. There's a lot of expertise here, listen to them. Good luck my friend .

Shooting from the hip here. Platinum isn't my strong suit so if I am off, I apologize in advance.

I believe these routinely trade in the $1200.00-$1300.00 range and I believe spot on platinum is about $1030.00..... So there is some numismatic value at play here.

I would assume the government holder for these is similar to most bullion. The 2X2 the coin currently resides in is not government issue, so I believe that mark likely occurred when it was handled. It also appears that Lady Liberty may have a rub on the bridge of her nose as well. She won't score a 70. But then few do.

I cannot say how a TPG grade may or may not affect the value of a platinum bullion coin. In your case, I rather suspect that the market value will not be affected with or without being interred in plastic. I would opt for a snap tight holder rather than the expense of a TPG grade myself.

I’ve always wanted a platinum coin... I wouldn’t care honestly if there were a scratch on it... I don’t even have a dollar to buy one with... (still searching for a job)

If you think you could get a 69 out of it they get pretty pricey. NGC lists it at $5000 in MS69.

Yeah, pen or pencil mark, not a big deal! You'll still get a good price for it! Incidentally platinum has gone up a bit since the end of July, not sure why but it's supposed to go up more! :D

Only 14,000 minted so I would say it's something to hold on to.

I'm guessing it happened when it was busted out of the original holder.
