How come everyone likes these? I have one myself i just noticed, and was wondering what the deal was? thanks
I'm not for certain, but I think maybe that was the last year Kennedy Halves were released to the general public. Since then, they've been offered in P and D roll sets and bags only from the mint for collectors. Just a guess, so maybe we should research more or wait for more astute answers from other forum posters before accepting the aforementioned as fact.
Here in Connecticut anything with a Denver mintmark is rare. So I have kept the only three 2001D half dollars that have come my way. The best one was received by trading plentiful (to me) P mint halfs with a member in AZ. None of them are in great shape but they are the only specimens I have without buying them.
Thats right last year released, last month I got a bank roll of 2001-d all coins u.n.c. was I every surprised when I opened that roll. But I know someone in ct I will have to send some too.
I dont see why we dont use more half dollars, I allways have a ton since I search rolls every week or so and I use them all the time when Im buying stuff. And then usually when I pay with one someone looks it over and goes "huh, I havent seen one of these in a while" so why is america acting like we're phasing out the half?
I don't no coindude I use them all the time but I get the same look you do.Maybe because they are so big, and people are just used to cents nickels dimes and quarters.
There is nothing that sparks attitudes and tempers like a roll of half dollars. A lady in a bookstore said "Everyone hates these." Then she opened the roll and counted them to make sure I wasn't cheating her. A young cashier at the drugstore said "This is a half dollar, right?" I said nothing and she turned it over and read half dollar on the back, then said "I guess it is."
I actually had someone tell me that I needed to stop giving them fake coins and pay them with money when I tried to pay with half dollars.
Your right Victor attitudes change when you ask a teller for halfs, not the same look when you ask for cents of quarters.
A teller told me last Friday "These are not for coin collectors." And all she would allow me to buy was 2 rolls.
I'm sending my girlfriend's sister back there for rolls. She has an account there. The reason is that I think they have a nice stash. Out of just 2 rolls I found a nice 1968D and a couple other choice specimens. It is an untapped motherlode waiting for discovery. I bought another empty Whitman blue folder yesterday for 1964 to 1985D and it is crying to be filled.
