Alright, I couldn't wait for my 2000th post! To commemorate my 2000th post on CoinTalk and almost 3 and a half years of membership I have decided to host my first contest. You all have taught me a lot about coins since my 2nd collecting revival (I'm now on my third, and in deep). So here it goes... How it works: To enter simply post a picture of you favorite coin. If you have no way of taking photos, use a generic one from a website. Also give a little description of why its your favorite. The prizes: complete circulated collection of cents from 1941 to 1971 A pile of assorted UNC and proof coins (about 30-50 coins), including some nice older coins and bits of mint sets, maybe even some SILVER The Kicker: A photo of your favorite coin only gets you one entry. You can have up to five entries! But how do I get five entries you ask?? By offering a prize to the winner yourself! Depending on the magnitude of the prize being offered, you can receive up to 4 additional entries (how many is decided by me). So the winner gets all of my prizes, and the prizes any other members put up to get additional entries. Thats a lot coin coin! So, think of the prize you offer as kind of a wager. It increases your chances of winning. If you lose, you give it up. But if you win, you keep your prize and get everyone's coins! The more you wager, the better your chance of winning!!! Rules: Contest ends in one week. Midnight EST on August 1st 1 entry for favorite coin, up to 4 entries for prizes offered (entry totals will be updated daily) No minimum post count to enter Winner will be selected by assigning each entrant a number(s) and chosen by using a random number generator Not sending you prize to the winner will result in everyone not liking you The winner must post a picture of all of his prizes
OK Hamm, my favorite at the moment. Just cause I'm on the daughters laptop and this is the only coin I've got pics of. I especially like this rule: " Not sending you prize to the winner will result in everyone not liking you ". If I were to win your contest I will send the winnings to the youngest YN that enters this contest.....
Well i do like contests. This is a 1936 merc. My first coin with a die crack on the reverse. And for the winner i will send a 1951 rosie
I have a lot of favorite coins but this one is one that I always drool over and it's within reach financially. It's a gold Mexican Libertad with the winged Victoria on one side and the Mexican coat of arms on the other: My prize is a proof 1974 Bahamas $2 coin (.925 silver).
American Eagles are my favorite because of the Beautiful design I would upload a picture but the site wont let me so heres a link to one My prize is the elusive 2009 nickle Thanks for the contest http://www.coinpage.com/coin-image-3545.html
I would say my favorite coin is a 1825 half dollar. My grandfather on my Mom's side didn't have much money but he was able to put together most of a 1909-1942 penny set (missing 5 coins). He did have two other coins that somehow ended up in his collection, this 1825 half and a nice condition 1859 Indian head penny. If I ever had to sell my collection this would be the one coin I would hold back. To the winner I would send a set of 6 mercury dimes 1945-1940.
I like the name I have this one, that I really carry on my person. If it gets away from me, China will make me another.
Cool contest concept! A personal favorite, my 2009 Gold UHR: The prize I will offer: 1964-D Washington Quarter graded MS63 by ICG:
I'll post a summary of the winnings and number of entries per person tonight. Keep up the great prizes people, I wish I could enter the contest myself the coins are so nice!
Ok this one is a nice contest. My favorite coin is this one. Not a pic of my actual as I've not looked at it in a long time. Just getting back into the hobby since I was a kid (some 30 + yrs). This has been passed down for a few generations so it's like a family heirloom. That's why it's my fav. From what my mom told me it is supposed to go to the first granddaughter, which was my sister. My mom knew it would not stay in the family in her possession so I'm holding it until she gets here. I need to pull out my coins to see what would be the prize I give since I really don't know what I truly have anymore, but maybe one of the proof sets I just bought. (?)
My Fav. coin is this 1845 large cent given to me by my grandfather. And my prize to the winner is 2006 westward journey nickel series
Just a question or three seeking some clarity: So, posting the favorite (each person's photo) gets us one (1) entry out of a maximum of five (5) possible. So I can get five (5) entries by offering just A (singular) prize to the winner? and/or offering more prizes, by volume I could potentially get five (5) entries too? Okay, "the prize" here again is singular, I can receive four additional entries... So that's one (1) for the photo and up to four (4) more entries based on your decision of how to tally up the value of the prize. Then below we have the Rules bullet points, as such: So here it is suggesting up to four prizes be offered, as a wager? I am wondering if you mean up to four (4) coins max may be offered or if you are suggesting that the more one wagers the more entries you can get but not more than four coins for five total entries -- no matter how many prizes we each wager. Example, if someone offered 100 coins, it wouldn't count any more than someone who offered 4 coins (by volume) or in comparison a volume prize vs. high quality piece offered. No matter the conditions, the maximum is still a total of five (5) entries per contestant. Okay, that is my question in a round about way and here is a compounded query / suggestion... If the above is true, then daily tallying may result in some wasted time on your behalf should someone add more to or subtracts something from their wager, or if a new contestant pops into the game and offers more than the next person, you will have to re-balance new prizes against previous ones you've already decided the value of doling out entries for. Perhaps, your tally shouldn't be done daily especially if you were planning on revealing how many entries each member was up to each day, but instead, reveal the number of entries we each earned after the contest entry period ends and before you do the drawing. Am I over thinking this? I hope I don't sound critical. I've just been trying to figure out if I should offer more prizes. :smile Thanks again for the chance to play.
The Talley Thus Far... 1 Entry: DokuMint Dionhurst 2 Entries: Cman Park Qrts Coervi Green18 3 Entries: Ikandigit Krispy 4 Entries: Camlov2 Prizes: My original prizes 1951 Rosie 1974 silver Bahamas $2 proof 6 Mercs 2009 nickel IGC ms63 1964-D quarter Set of 2006 nickels If I missed you let me know. I gave more entries for nicer coins, and those values I assigned will probably change as the contest goes on. (If someone puts up something really really nice I'll downgrade everyone's entries, and if not I'll upgrade the entries)
Thank you Krispy for your proofreading. To clarify: The number of additional entries you earn is not based on how many coins you offer, but the overall value. (ei. 1500 wheat cents would not earn you more entries than a UNC trade dollar) ONLY THE OVERALL VALUE COUNTS As far as a 4 coin max, that was a typing mistake, there is no limit. And each prize offered will probably change the number of entries I award (i'm doing it on a bell curve), so one fancy prize being offered will throw everyone down a notch. Because of that, I own't update daily, only occasionally.
