I was reading an article on the web on rpm's and the article I was reading stated that after 1990 there were no true rpm's due to the fact that the mintmark was applied directly to the die. Is this true? And if it is then what would this be labeled as.

Possibly die deterioration doubling but I can not say for sure the picture is kinda fuzzy. The rest of the coin looks like it struck from a deteriorated die though.

If you could try to reshoot the zoomed in pic of the mark that would be a great help. Don't be so concerend about getting it as big as you can. Instead try to get the focus as sharp as possible.

It may be die deterioration or mechanical doubling - it's not an RPM.

No expert, but I'd say its mechanical doubling. The point on the underlying D seems too sharp to me.

Thanks all for your replies. Can't seem to get a better picture. Looking at it closely I can see it to be mechanical doubling. Still have alot to learn and read. Never realized that so much can happen to a coin even before it leaves the mint. Again thanks
