I suppose this had some kind of chemical dissolution, but, the thinness of the coin - the features like hair are still there, how did the coin get thinner?
I get that part. But the coin mics out at Thickness 0.078 inch. So did the acid actually get into the middle and thin the coin over all? How did it not get consumed on the copper between the edge and the middle?
The other striking thing is the blisters which look like plating blisters on a zincer. And notice that the motto (oh gawd I hope referenced that correctly) has what looks to be mechanical doubling.
the acid was also dissolving the nickle . on the edge of the coin the copper layer is eat away , that is why I said the acid dissolved the copper faster. these appear here on coin talk quite often. I have a couple of them myself that I kept for conversation pieces.
