Found this coin in one of my cigar boxes I misplaced. Not sure what, how and all that happened with this coin hopefully you folks can tell me. At first I thought is was just a broadstruck coin..then I see IGWT..or parts of behind the rim..then LIBERTY die clash on obverse. Would this be a double struck coin with other errors? Neat coin, I note gouges on obverse and reverse. Thanks, Jerry
Very nice coin! Looks like a rotated double strike. Too bad the feeder finger or something in the machinery gouged the crap out of it.
Looks to be a centered double strike with rotation between strikes. I can't tell for sure if it was struck in-collar on one or both strikes or is a minor broadstrike on one or both strikes. Either way, it's a very nice find.
I appreciate your replys. I guess my next question is what is it worth. I suppose that is another thread? Thanks, Jerry
Since most of the first strike details have been obliterated by the second strike, I'd estimate its value at around $85.
A 1st class bunch of reply's & some 1st class member's too! Mike I sure you have pin pointed the defects A keeper for sure Grayeagle :thumb::thumb::thumb::thumb::thumb::thumb::thumb: 7 out 10 in my book:bow:
How about the die clash of what looks like LIBERTY or most of it on left side of Lincoln's jacket starting close to the rim? I placed best I could arrows where this starts. I hope you can see where is starts. If this is such..would it not bring the value up? Thanks
That's what's left of LIBERTY from the first strike. It's not a clash mark. It's a flattened design element.
It's an interesting coin - I saw it on eBay when it was listed previously. Too bad about the damage...
