Besides weight how can I tell the difference? I bought two rolls from ebay and the lady assured me they were the (90%) variety, I got it in the mail today and Im not so sure its Silver, but I dont have a scale so I was wondering if there is another way to determine the difference? Thanks. Oh and this is my first post so whats up guys?
2000-S Kennedy if the is any die variety's here the link that would have them http://varietyvista.com/
Thanks Jello, I was not able to find the 2000 Proof or Silver proof to beable to tell the difference, but I appreciate your response
Can't you tell from the edge of the coin? The clad proofs show some copper and the silver proofs are all silver on the edge, right? And welcome to CT! Another trick is: lay a tissue over the top of them, put a clad one under there also, you can absolutely tell if its silver based on how the darkness of the coin looks through the tissue. If you have a known clad one under there, then you can see the difference.
gbroke Yeah the rim on these are a copper color, I think I got screwed. Time to make a call, Thanks for the help.
Just called and she said she would either give me back my money or send me the Silver proofs I ordered. I told her I wanted the coins. Its official Im a coin fanatic
LOL, Yeah Im new and still trying to find my niche, but right now Im stuck between Junk Silver, ASE and Morgan Dollars. I just happen to find those Kennedys and it was too good a deal to pass up
Well whatever you decide to settle into, it will be fun, as long as you enjoy it. Don't do what I did and buy everything you see. Take your time, learn and you fill great deals out there! I tend to stay clear of 'junk silver' or the like nowadays. I don't like competing for coins with bullion investors. I went through a big nickel phase for a couple months, and now I am on the road to finishing a U.S. type set Dansco album #7070. Who knows what I will be into next month! lol Either way, it sure is fun and educational.
Thats why Im glad I found this site because the info on the internet about the 2000 Kennedy Silver proofs was so incomplete. I like the Morgan and ASE a lot right now, but I also have been looking at Pandas and Maple leafs lately. I may take your opinion on Junk Silver, it cost a lot and I dont see the upside that I see with the 1 oz coins. Do you know of a good place to get rid of Junk Silver and 40% Silver coins?
Ebay buyers will scoop up junk silver at melt all day long. Just gotta pay the fees, but it usually works out better then selling it to a dealer. I sold most of my junk silver on craigslist for melt. But you do gotta deal with strangers then. Also, about this site. I was so glad afetr I joined here. You will always find friendly advice (for the most part) and there is never a dumb question. Trust me, I asked a lot and still do.
Ahh. theres the tissue trick. The local coin shop owner showed me that a while back but I couldnt remember which meant what. Thanks!
