On this particular one I have, the FG is a lot further away than the others. Any thoughts? Are there different varities of the 2000 WAM? Thanks
I do not believe that anyone has cataloged all the dies used for the '98 or '00 wide AMs as there were quite a few used. That said, your pics are a little small to tell what might be happening with your coin. It looks a little banged up, I wouldn't rule out a hit or two on the AM making it appear wide...can you post larger pics?
Good catch...coin probably took a hit... (In retrospect, I should pay more attention to the title of the post, which says "2000 d" - duh.)
2000d wam closer pics! I was trying to get close enough for you to see that it doesn't appear to be flattened out by any kind of hammering device...it looks more pronounced than anything.
I think part of the AM is missing. I redrew what I think might be missing by following the visible edges of AM. This was the result:
2 Wow Jason, what a great artist you are....a lot of talent!!! I want a potrait done of my daughter, Abbie one day...when she is a little older. I will keep you in mind for that if you are interested. Thanks for the info about the penny. I do have others that are 2000 WAM's , but not with a Denver mint mark. That would have been pretty awsome if it were one though.,,:high5:
Thanks for the compliment. Once in a while I do commissioned work, but not too often. Regarding a Denver WAM: there is always a possibility that a another new Wrong Design Variety will spring up in the form of a new Transitional Reverse, it is rather unlikely on a Denver issue after '92, but more probably on another year from Philly between '93-'97 (don't forget there was one '96 WAM found), but I, probably like many others, check the Denver issues anyway...just in case... Good luck with your searches.
2000d wam That is alright Bill,..I kinda thought that is what happened... I was doing some reading on Ken Potters page....and read this... 2000 1c Wide AM Type-2 (Proof Style Reverse) From Original Mint State Rolls! On the regular business strike variety (Ty-1) the letters AM of AMERICA are close together and almost touching; the designer's initials, FG, (at the right side of the base of the Memorial Building) are spaced well away from the building. On this business strike with proof style reverse (Ty-2) the letters AM of AMERICA are spaced significantly further apart than on the the Ty-1; the designer's initials, FG, are close to the base of the Memorial Building. The Ty-2 issue is very scarce on both 1998 and 2000 dated cents So there is a 2000 WAM (Ty-1) where the designer's initials are far away from the building...so you can't always totally rely on the FG being close to memorial building for a Wide AM is what I am getting from reading that. And they are almost touching...kinda like my 2000 D...what do you think?
