My Grandson just brought to me a Silver 2000 D Lincoln Cent in near mint condition. There are fulls steps visible on the reverse side. It is slightly thinner than a regular penny and is not silver coated. Has anyone heard of any of these? I thought, since it is thinner than normal, that it may have been struck on a dime planchet. I would like some comments on this. Thank you.

Since you mention it is thinner than normal my guess would be it was struck on a un-clad planchet. Could be a neat find. I suggest weighing it to find out.

Thank You. I will tell him we need to do that. He was so excited. We placed it in a holder and he took it back home. Since he only lives next door, I was thinking I'd try and get an image of it.
