2000 D PENNY

    I recently got this penny which is a little larger than a regular 2000 penny. It's like a charcoal gray. Could it have came from the mint this way? Thanks.

    Something doesn't look right about it. I'm leaning toward it being a copy of some sort.

    i agree on PMD, see those bumps in your pics, those are plating blisters and/or bubbles, an indication the coin is copper plated, the discoloration could be from most anything, some sort of chemical reaction maybe...

    My guess would be that the copper plating is gone and the zinc has started to rot and swell out larger. this will happen faster if the coin is left in a wet area.
