I found this coin today, long story, it seems to be uncirculated condition, clipped, and was struck multiple times (3 maybe 4) - on the multiple strikes, the text is reversed (like if you held it to a mirror) - the reverse has a clipping mark below monticello - also multiple strikes --- have not had a chance to get digital photos -- will provide them to anyone who can give ball park estimates --- if this is a true treasure, will provide more details and will sell to the right buyer... if it's a $5-200 coin, I'll keep for my daughter's collection --

Sorry but we can't say anything much unless we see a photo...can't tell what it is or how much it would be worth.

Howdy memphis - Welcome to the Forum !!

Hate to say this, but I donlt think that coin came from the mint that way. I think it was intentionally altered.

as to the intentionally altered, I don't think so -- it was found in the vending machine in my brothers business in a poor urban neighborhood.

It looks intentionally altered to me aswell. All of the images of the other coins are mirrored. If it came from the mint that way you would not see that. Where the other lettering is would be smashed as well. Looks like two nickels were hit together with a hammer or press.

The skeptics are all correct. This coin was vandalized outside the mint. These are often called "vise jobs" or "sandwich jobs". Two struck nickels were pressed into the obverse of this nickel, while the latter was resting on some hard surface.

Its not difficult to replicate. All that's required is a few nickels, a hard surface, and a good whack with a hammer ;)
