Just got this one back from NGC and thought I would share it. Canadian Quarter struck on a US 5 Cent Planchet. Only one other example I know of that exists.

I would also love to know how this happened. how in the world could anyone prove that this was a US nickel just from the weight of it. maybe we all can learn something here.

I purchased it years ago as a Canadian quarter struck on a foreign planchet. It wasn't until years later that it was determined to be struck on a US 5 cent planchet. Around 1999, the US Mint contracted the Royal Canadian Mint to produce US 5 cent and Sacajawea dollar planchets. Evidently not all planchets successfully arrived in the United States. At least two US 5 Cent Planchets made their way into the Canadian Quarter presses, this one and one struck as a 2000 Harmony quarter.

That's really cool! Now, we all need to be on the lookout for QEII on a golden planchet.

If you found a Canadian coin struck on a Sacagawea planchet, it would most likely need to be a toonie.

I don't remember what I paid for the coin but the average price I paid for Canadian off metals back then would be around $50. I don't know where the other one is, I just saw it in an article.
