I've seen a few 2000 and 2001 NGC silver eagles with the label that says 25yrs of eagles and some that say 20th anniversary collection?? They came out in 1986 so what are these coins? Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think those inserts were used only for the coins struck on their respective anniversary (2006 or 2011). Chris
Well, I just reviewed the NGC requirements for these labels, and it seems that they are only available for the 2006 & 2011 coins. Hmm! Chris
IIRC these labels were sold by The Coin Vault. The labels really have nothing to do with anniversaries, per se, as much as the 20th anniversary collection was used for a "collection" of eagles slabbed in 2006. The 25 years of Eagles label was done in 2010 to give them a special label to hype. These labels were done for bulk submissions for special customers and are another reason why you should never collect the slabs, but rather collect the coins contained within
During the anniversary years some large submitters put together sets of silver eagles, one for each year 1986 - 2006 and 1986 - 2011 and have them slabbed with special custom labels Set XXX of YYY 20th or 25th years of eagles. What you are seeing are individual coins removed from one of those bulk submission sets.
