Here is a bit of history.http://www.nj.com/gloucester/voices/index.ssf/2011/01/franklin_township_was_once_a_g.html
I think your Warrick & Stanger is the one in Rulau listed as NJ Gb-1. It's 18mm brass. There are others known in bronze and white metal. The old Miller number is NJ12. Still haven't found out anything about your other medal. Bruce
I'm going to look later, but I think an example of the Washington/Roosevelt Centennial Medal may be coming to auction later this month. Those are two neat pieces. If I were to simply take a guess , I would say the Warrick/Stanger token would be the rarer of the two.
You may be right coinman, but I'm not sure what the value of the Centennial Medal would be. The Warrick & Stanger piece isn't rare, at least going by prices realized when they come up for auction. I used to own an example myself, and have seen probably another half dozen at various times for sale or at auction. Steve Hayden offered one several years back, but I don't recall the selling price. In my estimation Mark's token is a $20.00 piece because of the condition. A better example might get $40.00 tops, but you never know with this kind of material. Please let us know what you find out about the medal coinman. Bruce
Thanks so much coinman, I really appreciate the help. Are you looking online or do you have a book? If it's online could you give me the link? Thanks! Mark
I believe it is one of the two upcoming Stacks/Bowers Sale. I vaguely recall seeing one , I just can't be more definite at this time. Here is some info which may shed some light for you. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_presidential_inauguration Read the Presidential Medals segment. Actually I meant to say Grover Cleveland instead of Roosevelt . I must have had " Roosevelt" on my mind.
So close yet so far. I found a medal on the internet, it has the same bust and that is it. The one I found was also a medal that was attached to an eagle pin which could explain the hole. I followed your link coinman and went to the Smithsonian from there, no luck there either. Now I'm on a mission! I'll let you know what I find out. Thanks for the help!
haha. Happy Hunting. If CWtoken guy was around, he'd probably have that identified for you. I just don't have the the books handy .
I'm trying my friend, I really appreciate you and Bruce trying to help me out. Hopefully I can return the favor at some point. Thanks, Mark
