Found this in a drawer at the house. Don't know anything about it, but it has medallic alignment. Anyway, the obverse looks BU and the reverse XF!

Kind of reminds me of sooooo many German 2-5 mark coins. Gorgeous uncirculated reverse, obverse that looks like it was wire brushed to death.

Quite a difference in the two sides. Which side was facing down, the reverse? That'd be my guess.

What was it laying on? That's what happened there. Environmental damage

From Great Britain, the only modern country that I know of that doesn't put their name on their coins.
And it's either the first or second year of issue; 1968 was the last of the large penny for circulation. I think they struck some in 1969 for collectors.
The NEW PENNY was about the same size as our cent.
I believe the NEW PENNY was also the start of the decimal system for Great Britain.

I'm inclined to agree - doesn't seem like a ton of wear on that face, just discoloration.

It was just laying on paper in my home. Whatever occurred must have happened elsewhere... I guess.
