Well, these are my first seated coins. I got them pretty cheap, so the damage doesnt really bother me 1853 Dime 1876 Quarter - I dont know who would make such a scratch on it - but oh well. I think, regardless of the damage, they're in decent condition. your thoughts?
Both have historical value. I've always liked the "arrows at date" pieces - indicating a change in weight (and, of course, intrinsic value). The 1876 piece is kinda cool - centennial of the Declaration of Independence. Nice addition to your collection !
hey yeah, i didnt even realize that! the arrows were added in 1853, and I totally forgot about the centennial but yeah, the dime is now my oldest in my collection. before it was an 1864 Indian Head Cent. which still isnt that old, considering US coins were minted in in the early 1790's, lol. (and i say US because i dont include state-minted coins from earlier)
Love the coins - obviously I don't mind the circulation... I would like to find the turkey that purposely scratched that quarter - what in the world would poses someone to do that. I have seen the same types of marks on eBay coins and it always makes me wonder what were they thinking... Nice coins regardless - thanks for sharing. Darryl
I like them. I also keep running across seated dimes and quarters at pretty low prices because of wear or damage and I've though about starting a collection of low quality seated coins.
i know, when i first saw it i thought, "who would do that!?" - but hey, its my first seated coinage, so I'll take it :smile
I hear ya, love adding anything new to my collection that I have never had the opportunity to hold before. Thanks again for sharing...
