Finally got around to adding more Roman Republics. One has been seen many times as it's a former "Bing" coin. Recently did a trade for it. The other was the usual right time/great price scenario. P. Nice coins @Mat ! I like the biga of lions. This series has two control marks: on Obv - a symbol (caduceus, shield, thunder bolt, etc.) & on Rev - Greek letter(s). I bought one a couple of years ago and could not read the letters, so I did a bit of searching and found most of the dies. I posted the results here: http://rrdenarius.blogspot.com/2015/01/ Mine is a ΞΒ / thunderbolt. M. Volteius M.f. AR Denarius. Rome, 75 BC. Obverse - Laureate, helmeted, and draped bust of Attis right; thunderbolt behind, control symbol Reverse - Cybele driving biga of lions right; ΞΒ above - control number (in Greek letters); in ex - M·VOLTEI·M·F Crawford 385/4; Sydenham 777; Volteia 4. 3.87g, 18mm, 8h. Good Very Fine. There is some disagreement on the identity of the person on the obverse. Grueber in BMCRR – Mommsen said, Attis, the beautiful Phrygian shepherd who was beloved by Cybele and had a cult following in Asia Minor. Cavedoni said, it is Corybas, son of Cybele. Sydenham and Seaby quote Grueber. Crawford and Sear say bust right. Crawford gives at least 3 probabilities. RBW Collection – this attribution says male head, R. This is one where you make the call. I like Attis.
