I received these two semi old coins from an acquaintance who just came back from Turkey. I have not collected Turkish/Arabic coins before. I can read a good bit of Latin, some Greek but no Arabic. Any ideas?
1st - Turkey ؟؟ para or qorush 1223+26=1253AH = about 1837AD 2nd - Turkey 10 para 1293+?( small number is not clear) = about 1876? AD
2nd - 10 Para silver, struck in Constantinople under Sultan Abdul Hamid II .year 1293 AH (1899 - 1900 AD ) - KM # 744 1st coin - silver , struck in Constantinople- year1223 \ 29 . It could be 10 or 20 Para depending on weight. I don't know. If it weighs less than one gram , then it's only 10 Para.( KM # 595). Charles
The upper coin is 20mm and 1.8 grams. The lower coin is 18 mm and 1.8 grams ( It seems a little thicker). I understand the Muslim year system, but why are the dates noted with a slash and second number. Is the second number the year of the reign of that sultan?
Hi. The upper coin is definitely 20 Para. Yes , the second number is the year of reign . Good luck.. Charles
