In another thread, I mentioned buying these from TDEC1000 here on CT. Here are the close ups of the varieties. First a 1939 Double Monticello. close up of the more extreme part Also the 54 S/D Thanks for looking! Jim
Jim, Congrats on your purchase of some really nice Variety specimens! They would be great in any Collection! Frank
Your 1939 DDR is very nice, and it is the FS-022 variety (not to be confused with the much-lesser-valued FS-022.5.) I just bought one myself not too long ago in an NGC AU-58 holder, although I believe the coin is actually MS-63. Your S/D is quite nice also. Congratulations!
Thanks. I thought they were a couple of great coins also. I think key varieties (especially redbook listed) are getting harder to find in nice condition. Jim
Love the DDR!!! Those are hard to find in nice grades. For sometime now I've watched for both die #1 and #2 on Ebay, but seem to always miss them :rolling: Speedy
Just wondering, the 1939 Jefferson is a very common coin still in circulation (compared to pre-1959 coins, in my experience). I threw a few dozen into a bag recently - how much are those doubled Monticello's worth in common circulated grades? I have never thought to look through these and am awaiting my Cherrypicker's Guide from Amazon.
