Some Coins To Check I read somewhere that any pre-1964 coin has some value, but I am not sure. Can someone tell me how much this is worth? I also have an Egyptian coin, which is where I am from, that is 10 Egyptian cents (sorry, the right name slipped my mind), and on the right it says 1413 and the left says 1992. Keep in mind that arabic is read from right to left, not left to right. I have also found 2 US 1 Cent Liberty coins, one dating 1978 and one dating 1977, can someone tell me what they are worth. One last thing, I also found a 1967 - 1992 coin, does it have any significance? I am new to the coin world, I just started seriously collecting today, but I had a little collection, like 5 coins, of coins that i just randomly found and saw that I liked. Thanks
Howdy Jervous - Welcome to the Forum !! If you're talking about pre '64 US silver coins, then yes they do have a value above face value because of their silver content. Right now it is about 5 times face value. In other words a silver quarter is worth about $1.25. Other than that, value is based on date, mint mark and the coin's condition. The Egyptian coin you mention is likely not worth more than face value unless it is a high grade uncirculated coin.
Hello jervous! welcome to the forum, and welcome to the hobby! someone told you that pre 64 coins have value, because in after 64 most denominations were no longer minted in 'coin silver', which is 90% silver. Now the value depends on many things, all of which depend on what you have. Certain dates are more desirable than others, and better condition carries a higher value - worn coins from average circulation, and common dates, carry 'bullion value', which is the value of the silver contained in the coin, but probably will not carry more of a premium than that. Now, this would not be true, if you had a particularly rare coin, or one in exceptional condition. If you give a little more information about it, such as date or, if at all possible, an image of the coin you could post, the members here can help out a lot more. As for your egyptian coin - do you mean 10 piastres? Krause lists that coin, from 1992 which shows a mosque with three towers on the reverse, as being worth 2.50 in uncirculated condition - if yours has evidence of circulation, it wouldn't hold much value, but is still a neat place to start your hobby - it looks like a beautiful coin. It is copper-nickel, and the Krause # is 733.
The 2 US cents are worth 2 cents...I think when you say a 1967-1992 your talking about a Canada Cent...right? I have a few of them I have pulled from circulation. Speedy
Thank you very much for your help, and yes, the Egyptian coin has the 3 towers, and the 1967 is supposed to be a 1867, I misread it, and I found another one.
Also, the pre-1964 coins I found were pennies, so this means they are not valuable - correct? And I also just found a 1969 US Liberety Penny.
