Looks like # has a doubling on the eagle...

    As for grades....
    #1 MS62/3
#2 MS Detail AU....it been dipped as you can see around the stars and other detail.

Thanks!, The first is a SEGS holder MS-64, the other is PCI MS-60, Iam buying the coin, not the holder, so when I get these in hand Ill let you'al know what grade I feel they are., and yes!, I see the doubling on the eagle, I will inspect that at work with my high power inspection scope.

Keep in mind that on these older type coins the ware you might see sometimes is not ware, but strike!, these need to be SPLIT-GRADED, it is very hard to find these bust series in sharp needle like strikes, and if you do, Iam sure the prices will reflect that.

Split grading is way out of date...you go by the lowest side and that is the grade....

Let me see....the eagles head...and one of the lowest pieces of hair that might so some wear??

Just my opionion You fellas are way off the grades, you need to look at pcgs and anacs graded coins in au grades and see alot more ware than these! And I will always split-grade, its technical but will tell the whole story.

Well we don't have the coin in hand so we can only see the photos....that isn't always easy.

I think more than wear...its the dipping and such that lowers it for me...
I really don't see much wear on the 2ed one and can't seem to find any on the first one.
I think the reason why.....PCI is known to overgrade.....SEGS is known to overgrade...and our grades are lower than what they put....Is this in a new PCI holder or a old one???

    To each his own....

Well, number (1) you RARELY see MS Capped Bust Halves. They mostly have seen some circulation at some point. And, number (2) the stars didn't appear struck-up as an MS Bust Half should do.

Here is a (AU-53) which a dealer raw graded for me a week or so ago. I think it's more 50ish but he said coins this old get a slide to the next higher grade if they are borderline. I still won't get it slabbed cause I prefer raw coinage.

I won't guess at what you paid for them :D

Beautiful coins you got there :)

There are a ton of bust halves in lower grades all over!many with problems. The higher grades in MS-60 and higher problem free are toughf!!!

Just for the sake of discussion take a look at these pics.

Those are the high points for the obverse. See how these spots are a different color than the rest of the devices ? Also notice how there is no luster in these areas ? That is what light wear on silver looks like. I'll buy that the details are not fully struck up in these areas, and I'll accept that without them being fully struck there would be no metal flow to produce the luster. But now look at the next pic -

These spots are not the high points - and yet they show the same telltale darkness and lack of luster for light wear on a silver coin. These areas are fully struck IMO and thus the only reason for the lack of luster would be light wear.

    Now the reverse -

For the reverse, these are the high points. And they show the same telltale signs as the obverse. So in my opinion this coin, while being absolutely killer in all respects, should rightfully grade as AU58.

I am not in the least surprised in the grade assigned by SEGS. The coin has dynamite luster, is well struck and it has all the eye appeal in the world. It's a gorgeous coin !! And I will also readily agree that even NGC and PCGS will sometimes overgrade these coins - especially if they look like this one. But they don't always. Quite often they call a spade - a spade.

Once again GDJMPS your posts are great...I learn lots just reading and looking at them....then searching out the photos and such...thanks

2Coins...the big thing is that you bought the coins...not the holders...that is good and no matter what the grade you will still like the coins!

    2coins -

My last post was made more for the benfit of others, who do not understand or know how to recognize these things. Those are some killer coins you found there - of course I would expect nothing less from NEN.
