hey guys, i have a 1976 $2 bill note with the bicentennial reverse. Does anyone know the value of this bill (I have no experience whatsoever with currency collecting)?
ive never run into a $2 bill recently in circulation. no vending machines accept them and cashiers mostly have to slide them in a deep corner in the register. However, next time you go to the bank, don't be afraid to ask the bank teller.
as national dealer said before, the bank is a good place for coins as well as gas stations and grocery stores.
My bank is no good for coins (although I did get a roll of Sacs from them today). A coin shop near me has been providing me with Ikes, mostly in poor condition and Kennedys. He gives to me at face value, but I'll make a point of buying something for his trouble. BTW He told me that millions of old coins are brought to the Reserve on Route 17 New Jersey (I believe they used to be kept in lower manhatten before Sept '01) He gets his obsolete coins from there. He says he kepts Ikes on hand for customers to use in old vending and pinball machines that they have in their houses.
I am the Director for one of the Northeast's largest monthly coin shows and you would be amazed at what is used to pay the .50 entry fee. Over the last few months we have received as payment... 1. Common date wheat pennies in with memorials. 2. Numerous Ike, SBA and Sac dollars. 3. An XF Barber Quarter! Had to be mistakenly given of course, a good argument for having someone versed in Numismatics working the door! 4. A number of $2 bills 5. A couple of silver Washington quarters. 6. A great deal of Canadian coinage from those trying to save on admission ;-) In addition to making friends with a bank to get $2 notes and other items, try making friends with some local store owners. You would be amazed at what often gets passed at your local corner store. Make a friend and stop by every now and again to see what you can find.
Gas stations Pizza delivery grocery stores 7-11 or circle K antique stores specialty shops any place that deals in cash. One place that really works fantasticly is veteran services like the VFW or American Legion. If you are not a member of these organizations, go by and ask if you can volunteer three or four times a year. You will find that your effort to make friends will help you find coins others never see. Share your hobby with as many people as you can.
Hey cdcda, do you have a link for upcoming coin shows in the Northeast? I have not had much luck. Could only find a few small shows in CT and MA. I would think there would be some large shows in New England or New York State this summer!
Check out the following links for upcoming shows in your area... http://www.coinworld.com/News/ShowCalendar.asp http://www.coinshows.com/ For information on our show, check out http://www.cdcda.org, hope to see you there!
Do you guys always sell out on bourse space? I keep promising people up in your neck of the woods that we will do a show, but alas, none scheduled this year.
Usually, but I am sure we can get you a table if you desire one. We should probably discuss outside of the forum though - my email is jpierce@cdcda.org.
I have a $2 note from 1928 (albeit in pretty bad condition). Reminds me of a nickel actually -- Jefferson on one side, Monticello on the other Was $2 a standard denomination back then? This note doesn’t seem to be commemorating anything in particular.
