Please share your thoughts. Looking through some cents and found these. I compared them with some pictures in Strike it Rich and the search on coppercoinage website. Do not see anything resembling them to give me some help. I included three pictures of each coin. Im green as grass. Thanks
The doubling is from the strike. As the dies deteriorate, the planchets slip the more on the irregular surfaces, and this happens.
"Strike It Rich"? LOL. Actually that might be a great title to a book based upon a multitude of examples of worthless PMD on various coins. An example would be an entire chapter dedicated to the various types of damage each type of street cleaner could do to various coins. Another chapter exploring a number of different types of vises used to deface coins would be helpful. From expensive German engineered dental tools to various Made in China hand tools, the examples are unlimited.
I have to say sometimes I feel like we’re in a paleontology forum and people are popping in here one after another all day long with magnified photos of rocks and stones they found in the street only to ask us, “Is this a fossil, and if so, how much is it worth?”
How about the ones that show a picture of the surface of a coin @ x 25+ magnification that has years worth of circulation damage and they seem to spot damage that resembles a tiny number, character or shape of a specific object in there somewhere? Funny because in order for such a microscopic digit, character or shape of an object to appear on a coin like that, the said such microscopic digit, character, or shape would have had to have been designed into the die first. What would the purpose of doing such a thing be?
