    Hello,

    Please i need your help.
Weeks ago i found an Euro coin 1 cent in perfect condition. It's from Germany year 2002 made in Berlin( first series A). It appears a big error has been made. The material that it has been printed on seems to be the same like with the 10, 20 and 50 cent, but shinier. Is these even possible? As you can see in the pictures. For weeks i tried to gather information about that coin, asking around, checking the internet, asking people with knowledge in this profession-but no ussefull info; everybody saw that kind of coin for the first time. Everyone seems to be surprised when i show it. We even called the bank where they first told us like the coin didn't suppose to exist and than like it does exist but it's extremely rare. Altogether i couldn't find a coin that would match the characteristics of this coin from year 2002. Does it mean it's rare or even unique? Please i would be very grateful for any background/history of this coin.

Thank you very much for your time,
    M

Have you tried weighing it? A normal 1 cent euro should weight 2.30 grams. It looks more like it might have been plated to me.

Yes, "plated" makes a lot of sense. Such pieces are relatively common; various companies do that. The gilded pieces are then given away as lucky pennies. Has been done in Germany for many decades (first with 1 pf coins, now with 1 ct coins), and I find it surprising, to put it mildly, that nobody has been able to tell you that.

By the way, the common side of "copper" coins (1, 2 and 5 cent) was not updated when the second series was introduced. Only the Nordic Gold and bimetallic coins got new maps ...
