1C - Off Center - Clipped Planchet

    Hi all,
    5-20-2017 Flea Market purchase

    Got this 1 Cent Copper Plated Zinc Way Off Center with Clip.. Or is it? o_O

    Yep! Sure looks like it to me!

    ~90-ish% o/c plus an elliptical clip!

    I can't really tell by the angle of the photograph but it looks like the "clip" area comes to a peak in the middle. If that is the case the clip is false.

    Hard to tell, but my gut says OK. Any sign of Blakesley opposite the clip?

    I don't think the Blakesley Effect would apply to a Blank Planchet because there is no pressure being applied to the Obverse or the Reverse of this Cent. Only the small portion that was struck.

    Actually, it would. The Blakesley effect, i.e. the flattened rim, occurs on the process of rolling the edges of the blank, turning it into a planchet - before striking. Generally, you should see a flattening opposite the clip.
