Hi all, Just received a Cent with a nice Die Chip on the side of the Memorial Building. This is my 3rd of this type of error which is called either a Beehive or Hornet's Nest because it is what it resembles. Enjoy Here is a picture of my other Die Chip and a picture of another members exact same Die chip as mine!! @eric6794
Cool pennies and nice condition. What years are the zinkers? They appear to push the plating envelope which I find interesting. I have two state quarters that have the Little House on the Prairie school-house on it. One one, the kid sitting on the steps appears to have been stung and may bee allergic. On both, the hornets' nest is on the window case left of the front door.
I just found my second one of those...on the Iowa. I have seen pics with 4 chips down that same area of the window. @paddyman98 those are really cool. Hope to find one myself.
One of mine I recall having a circular frostiness in the plating that has a faint yellow or greenish hue. Bad rinse or something. They definitely sound like sibling coins.
Is the 2007 the one showing the start of wavy steps? I would love to see more up close pix of those beehives from various angles and yes with years noted! The zinc out-running of plating helps show that stamping die geometry is quite brilliant to generally not slice the plating to pieces while rendering sharp and crisp details. Easier said than done.
Yes. It's the top Cent being compared to the other CT members find. Both of our finds are the same year. Notice that his Die Break is a little longer than mine. So a later stage in the break. I will try to get more pictures tomorrow. Here is the full shot -
So @paddyman98 whats your take on this? It appears to me that this is a early state bee's nest with the copper layer missing to expose the zinc along with some die gouges. I thought i'd share
