I see these are now selling on ebay easily for $350.00 a set. Do we see $500 soon? Seems like these just keep going up and up in value!
I don't see them going higher...in fact I don't think they will stay up tooo long...it doesn't seem they are worth what they are going for. Speedy
1999 silver proof sets Well, if you consider that many, (including myself) joined the state quarter collecting club late in the game (2000) -you absolutely have to have the 1999 silver proof set to complete the series. Also, considering the 99s were the lowest mintage, 750,000 if I recall dont quote me, I would think they will increase, maybe gradually, maybe exponentially -but they are the "key" set as collectors like to term things. What amazes me is that the 2000s have gone no where. SUre, the Mint minted a million or so, but still, even the 04s are going up now??? My question is, what will the entire set be worth -or like you say, will it cool off once the thrill of collecting is over.
I remeber in 2000 sometime the dealer telling me...you might want to buy that RED 1999 PF Set...I think its going up...back then I wasn't into coins as much and didn't have the $$ that I need to buy it...I passed it up and even though I don't collect the newer coins (past 1964) much that would have funded my collection a bit! I just visited my local coin shop today. He had one set going for 389.00. Will have to wait and hope for it to come down.
I don't know. I can't help thinking that those who started collecting the series in 2000, 2001 and beyond will pay dearly for the 1999. I mean the entire series comes with it's own custom made US Mint 10 set box -how cool is that? I believe we will see the 99s hit the $400 range by spring of next year -but, I aint the "Allan Greenspan of the silver quarter series", just a lamenting collector who whined and rebelled not to buy when the 99s were selling for $89 bucks. I bought one set Now, I'm paying $250
I can't help but think that the whole State Quarter thing and new nickel thing will come right back and get collectors right in the pocket book....I think all of the money "invested"---in come back as change to be spent...I think after people see how many people hoarder these coins and how many are in MS grades...the market is going to drop out on these coins and we will use them to get a pop... Speedy
yea -i wonder that too. I mean look at the 1976 bicentenial quarter. They made millions, most are horded and most are only worth .25c -i spend 'um. but I have yet to receive a buffalo nickel in change -yet the P&D rolls which were booming are now going no where in price. Guess time will tell on those. As for the silver quarters, I wonder what happens after the series is collected?
