    1 cent.
99's are supposed to be close AM. You are looking for a wide AM like this:

Your coin is not a proof. It is plated.

    Nice plated cent
Which is worth 1 cent and considered damaged because of the plating.

They are very common in virtually any year

Thanks for the feed back everyone. I worked at a bank and weighed it. I thought it might be a fake penny because it weighs the same as a traditional penny. Wouldn't it weigh more if it was plated? It came from a new roll of 1999 pennies.

The plating is so thin it would add no discernable weight - less than 1/100 of a gram.

They are very easily obtained in retail .. just check out MerrickMint.com and they are only ONE vendor of many of plated coinage.

Once the novelty of these wear off of owners, they tend to find their way into circulation sooner or later.

Ha ha.. I can weigh what I like. I'm not sure I like your attitude Paddyman98...... Just take your negativity and float! I am not a coin dealer and just wanted some advice. THANKS for advising me not to bask here anymore.

Sorry @paddyman98 I guess your 30+ years of collecting error coins and numerous posts on Coin Talk helping new collectors learn and understand about errors and the minting process aren't needed by the OP. After all, the OP already said that they knew they coin wasn't plated.

Been an interesting week on CT. First Lord Marcovan gets slammed by a new member and now you. Oh well
