I was comparing 2 1999 pennies, for they both looked different, at first I was looking at their noes, I didn't think they looked the same. Then I noticed that one of them had some marks alone the rim, and I thought I would ask you fellow hunters. Not sure Striking Error, Broad strike? I saw something it on Error REF.com? Anyway one coin has some lettering and #'s. Wht sy you One or both errors , or none? 2nd coin looks like its fat?
Real Slick, you can't always compare 2 coins like you have, even if they are the same denomination, year, mint, as the mints have multiple production lines, the planchets may come from different commercial suppliers. Also of course, the die used to make the coin will altered due to length of use and thickness adjustments ( that is why each coin doesn't weigh exactly the same weight or expected to do so , so the mint lists as a range. My best suggestion is to compare possible oddities with the large number of books available on line and in print. It can't be done quickly or easily , if you spend all of your spare time looking at bags of wheats, you will go crazier than most here. Jim
Well, your photos are better than usual, you finally found a coin that was at least worth looking at. It is AU or better, that's a plus. What you see in the nose is a difference in strike. Lincolns profile shows some die deterioration or split plate doubling.
