1999 Liberty v nickel i know it sounds crazy but i found thing coin in with other V nickels i bought recently. Does any know anything about this?
Well can't really be "fake" when there is no real 1999 Liberty nickel for it to be a fake of. I can only presume it's altered for the sake of novelty as nobody who knows anything about Liberty nickels would mistake it as something real. To be more accurate in semantics, either it's an altered genuine Liberty nickel (possibly an 1899) or it's a fantasy piece made in imitation of a Liberty nickel. But you can't make a fake 1999 Liberty nickel if there's no such thing as a real 1999 Liberty nickel. (Sorry if that's too nitpicky. But words mean things.)
That's a possibility too. Mystery is why would anyone want to alter it to a date well after its mintage ended? There were no genuine Liberty nickels minted after 1913. Someone just bored I guess? Middle 9 does look a little suspicious. Altered 1909 is certainly a possibility.
That's why a pic of the reverse would help,to are if its a reverse of 02. As for why the only one that knows is the one that did it. Practice for a key date?
