yup, its an error alright. You error-ed in wasting time in posting, and me in responding.

 

If you think you know, then it would be helpful if you told others what you think it is rather than have them play a guessing game from not-so-great photos.

Yep, you're right, the mint had the planchet 90 degrees out of rotation when they struck it.

 

I hope you're just kidding, because the planchet can't be 90 degrees out of rotation when it is struck, EVER!

Just an attempt at a little levity because the OP posted the images rotated. Didn't think I'd need a .

 

I used to think the emoticons wouldn't be necessary as well, but then I learned that we have more than our share of members in their teens to 60's who couldn't find their way out of a room even when the door was open.

Have you ever found a planchet that was struck 90 degrees out of rotation? Or 180? Or 270? I'll bet you have plenty that were struck 360 degrees out of rotation?
