Has anyone ever seen or have a 1999 Delaware Qurater with a missing 1 in the date. I have one and the date reads 999 with no indication that there has ever been a 1 stamped into it at all. And if you have, is it worth anything?
If it is authentic (some people grind features off coins to "create" errors) then it is a coin that was struck with that portion of the die filled with grease. It is relatively common but if you sold it on eBay you should get a few dollars for it.
It really doesn't look like anyone tried to grind the number off. How would I know how much to sell it for on ebay so I would get a fair price. I don't want to rip anyone off but if it's worth something I don't want to just give it away either. Thanks for your help!
Most likely a filled-die error with dirt or grease blocking the die from making a well struck "1". Or perhaps a die with wear in the area of the 1? I have a _ELEWARE _87_ ___ FIR__ STAT_ E PLURIBUS UN__ reverse state quarter. Also, the tail of Caesar Rodney's horse lacks any detail. The obverse is problem free.
Start the bidding at 1 cent - and let it go from there. Starting with a low bid typically gets you more bids anyway. But the filled die coins are very common. I wouldn't be surprised to see it sell for the 1 cent plus your shipping charges - if it sold at all.
I've noticed a lot of Roosevelt dimes have a very week 4th digit in the date especially the 2004;you need a magnifier to see the 4. But that doesn’t make it worth more than 10 cent's.
